Synergy Client Solutions was relieved to see that UK unemployment fell
by 45,000 last month.
According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), unemployment has
fallen for the second month in a row. The figures have fallen to 2.6m, the
lowest it’s been since last summer. The average unemployment rate for Europe is
firmly at 10.2% but it seems that the UK is heading in the right direction as
the national figures have fallen to 8.2%. In addition, the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance fell
for the second month in a row to 1.59m - a large drop of 13,700. So why have
figures fallen so dramatically? It seems that the fall in jobless figures is
down to a rise in the number of people taking on part-time work. Synergy Client
Solutions were intrigued to learn that now eight million are now working in a
part-time job – smashing the previous record, held since 1992.
A number of measures have been put
in place to try and combat the rising unemployment. Various government and
non-government organisations have been tackling the issue and it seems that
progress is finally being made. Employment
minister Chris Grayling called the figures, “A welcome step in the right
direction” and went on to say, “For a number of months now, employment has been
growing and this is starting to feed through into improving unemployment
figures.”
Benjamin Jeanes, managing director of Synergy Client Solutions was
delighted to hear of the new figures. “Unemployment in the UK has been a
constant battle and its great when we see improvements like this. However, we
must continue to do everything to ensure the numbers keep falling. The
Government have worked hard to tackle youth unemployment and now they are moving
to tackle unemployment on a larger scale. These recent published figures show a
positive trend towards the ultimate goal and it is great we are heading in the
right direction.”
These figures are in stark contrast to what is going on in much of the
rest of Europe. Spain for example has hit shocking unemployment levels of 24.1%
Synergy Client Solutions is hopeful that the trend will spread throughout
Europe and help the European economy as a whole to improve.
